For the 4th year in a row, our Transition Year students have enjoyed a fantastic introduction to golf at Baltinglass Golf Club this term, developing new skills while experiencing the fun and friendship that the game offers. The programme was organised by Madge Tyrrell and TY Coordinator Ms B Dixon, with excellent coaching and encouragement from Tom O’Neill, PGA Coach.
The coaching sessions concluded with a very enjoyable Golf Tournament today, giving students the opportunity to showcase the skills they had learned. Well done to the teams who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Sophie Harrison from Golf Ireland spoke afterwards about the impressive growth in general in junior golf participation nationally, encouraging the TY students to take up the sport and kindly distributed pitch repairers, tees, and markers to the budding golfers. Past student Neil Patterson, currently pursuing golf studies in America, also attended to share his expertise and act as an inspiring role model for the students, while Richie Monahan provided great support as always, as Junior Convenor.
Students were thrilled to receive a complimentary green fee for a sunny Tuesday afternoon during the Summer holidays, and they and teachers alike greatly appreciated the warm hospitality, encouragement, and refreshments provided, making the experience a truly memorable one for everyone involved. The Captain and Lady Captain expressed their hope that Baltinglass Golf Club and Scoil Chonglais will continue to work closely together in the future to strengthen the connection between the golf club and the wider community, with both extending an open invitation to all students and teachers to visit and enjoy the golf club regularly in the years ahead.
