Scoil Chonglais Post Primary School

Principal's Welcome

Scoil Chonglais Post Primary School is a coeducational, multi-denominational school, under the auspices of KWETB. Our core values include respect and fairness and our motto is Endeavour, Integrity and Achievement. We are committed to providing a high standard of education and we aim to support each student in reaching his/her full potential in a caring, safe and respectful environment. We offer a broad range of subjects and a balanced curriculum and we offer a huge range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

In our current round of School Self Evaluation (2016-2020), our focus is on Literacy, Numeracy, Student Engagement and Active Learning Methodologies. We participated in the PDST Forbairt Programme for experienced school leaders last year, where we completed a Project on using the student journal as a means to promoting greater student engagement. We see our students as very important participants in their own learning and feel that parental support is hugely important also. This year, as part of the Forbairt Programme, we are undertaking a further project. The Project this time is looking at the use of Blooms Taxonomy of Questioning in the differentiated classroom. We are also involved in the Instructional Leadership Programme, which places a huge emphasis on active learning methodologies in the classroom.

As mentioned previously, together with the broad curriculum we offer, there is a vast range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities on offer, which help in the development of the whole person. For instance, this year we offer Basketball, Football, Soccer, Rugby, Golf, Green Schools, Games Club, Debating Club, Choir etc. Last year our second year girls Basketball Team were crowned All Ireland Champions in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght and our Senior Football Team won the Wicklow Schools Championship. Our Green School’s Committee is long established and we have been awarded our 9th Green Flag. We were awarded a Global Citizenship Award last year, in the Helix in Dublin, for our excellence in environmental awareness and action. We also are heavily involved in Scifest and we had two award winners in the 2018 Young Scientist Competition.

Our excellent facilities include a very fine Sports Hall and an Astro-Turf Playing Pitch together with a Football Pitch, a Basketball Court, Science Labs, a Home Economics Room, two Woodwork Rooms and a Metalwork Room, a Computer Room, an Assembly Area and numerous well maintained classrooms.

We have excellent opportunities for student leadership and our Meitheal Team work really well with our first years throughout their first year in Scoil Chonglais; our 5th year Prefects work with second years and our Student Council, which has representatives from all Year groups represents the student voice at regular meetings. Leadership Training is provided for each of these groups.

We have an excellent Pastoral Care System in Scoil Chonglais and each student has a Class Tutor and Year Head who work very closely with the Guidance Counsellor and the Deputy Principal and Principal.

It is very difficult to do justice to all that it is happening in Scoil Chonglais in this brief message, but we hope that by browsing our website you will get a good glimpse into life here in our school.

Patricia Gurhy.
